Neume, Sara Nguyen
Neumes are symbols that show the shape of music. The neume music notation system was the earliest form of music notation in the Western Middle Ages before the modern 5-line staff. People could record, share, and expand on musical ideas at long last! Though the system was not advanced enough to show pitches of sounds, neumes reminded singers of the song's melody through their shapes and the placement of each neume relative to the others. This original display font takes inspiration from the thick squared-shapes, thin lines, and curvatures of the neume notation system and the European Art Nouveau design style of the early 1900s.
